In practices of socially-engaged art, artists intervene situations. The intention of their intervention are noble, but it doesn’t guarantee a promising outcome. We don’t know how to judge whether an intervention is good or not, but we are going through trail-and-error and experience the happenings by ourselves.
In this exhibition, artists focus on different situations and conduct various events. Through bringing these works together, it attempts to discuss problems that ‘socially-engaged art’ raises. All the selected works define ‘public’ in a sense of ’specific group of people’, instead of ‘more people’. Moreover, these selected works question the role of ‘audience’. Instead of regarding ‘audience’ as a passive role, these works actively invite them to become participants.

It is neither abstract, nor an idea. It is a language, an experience and an expression.

Artist Introduction

My creation’s topic focuses mainly on the dark side and haunting memories of one’s mind. Conflicts between one’s inside world (mind) and outside world (action) rendered while he or she attempted to hide the true thoughts towards one another. Fear, guilt, loneliness, inharmonious …… Complexity of emotions would also be the prerequisite of my creation. I have developed a presentation technique with strong sense of staging style, which is seal and secret. The medias of my works mainly are installation, video and digital imaging.
