Guest of speaker: Vee Leong
Vee Leong is the director of the On & On Theater Workshop. She has the dual-track development as a screenwriter and a director. She was a media worker in her early years. She is dedicated to study, practice, and transform the European new texts, as a way to explore the contemporary theaters. At the same time, Vee strives to connect the experimental drama network between China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Paintings have become the major source of inspiration and formal reference in the playwriting and directing of Vee Leong. From Cy Twombly to Gerhard Richter, Francis Bacon to Michael Borremans, she raises questions about ways of abstraction in theatre making, how to address the politics of representation, and to revive imaginations in theatre.
Vee will share her reflections on the making of such works as The City (2015), Fragments of Stone and Gold (2014), and Claustrophobia (2017), as well as her recent participation in the visual art project of “Under.line” (curated by Jamsen Law, 2018-19).
All are welcome!
