Undergraduate Exhibition 2016
Cheng Ming Building and Ch’ien Mu Library, New Asia College, CUHK
Undergraduate Exhibition includes: “Selected Work Show” and “Curated Show” . The former showcases exceptional works of Chinese and Western medium selected by a team of professional judges; the latter encompasses nine proposals resulted from a series of interviews and seminars. There proposals demonstrate essential quality of self-initiation among students in determining the selection criteria, themes and forms of art-making in exhibitions.
For instance, the exhibition “No Smoking!” employs its title as the motto; the participating artists will explore both visible and invisible taboos in the society and chanllenge norms through seemingly unintentional means; “Body” aims at extending and deepening the discussions on body in lessons through the following perspectives: body and art, tools, sports and mortality. Analysing the discussions and documentation of students, “The Third Party and Participant” concerns the process and thinking in relational art; “This is not a Course Assignment- a Show Planned by Ourselves” , an exhibition which utilizes both personal and Chinese medium-related languages, will raises questions on the learning and creation of traditional ink painting.
