The 60th Anniversary of the Department of Fine Arts, Academic Staff Exhibition
Hui Gallery, New Asia College
(Exhibition period to be confirmed)
This invitational exhibition is dedicated to the achievements in the art field of the four full-time studio art teachers of the Fine Arts Department, CUHK.
To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Fine Arts Department, this exhibition will showcase the gamut of art possibilities advocated in the department’s mission.
The works of these four artists/teachers can be said to represent the whole range of artistic possibilities in a place like Hong Kong: the ‘traditional’ form of Chinese calligraphy, a more ‘hybrid’ form of Chinese painting, the ‘contemporary’ forms of integrated sculpture and body art as well as experiments described by the artist as a look into the relationship between ‘text’, ‘object’ and ‘image.’
In order to better understand the disparity of these practices and how they can make sense in the wider context of tertiary art education, at least one public debate will be organized between the participating artists.
